The Captain's Briefing will be at 7:00 am on Saturday 11 September just outside Regatta Control. Regatta control will be situated in a green tent close to the wooden building by the side of the lake in the Regatta Field. Further information is available in the notes that will be issued at the Captains' Briefing, a copy is attached.
Due to the abnormally low rainfall this year (the driest year for 29 years) the water level in the lake is much lower than normal. Average UK rainfall is about 1 metre per year, the average on Exmoor is about twice this at 1.8 to 2 metres per year. In the first seven months of of 2010 the total rainfall recorded at Chivenor (north Devon coast) was 28 mm. As a result of this low water level it is no longer possible to build a straight course on the Lake and the course has been amended to retain adequate width. The new course is shown here.
As the course is no longer straight and paragraph C of the Recommendations that accompany the South Coast Championship Rules recommends that in these circumstances "facilities should be available for coxswains/strokes to be taken over the course prior to the Championship Regatta." A motor boat and driver will be made available for this purpose on Friday 10 September.
The presentation of Prizes will commence on the afternoon of the Regatta, the time will depend on the arrival of Ed Code and the location will depend on the weather. The location and time will be announced over the public address system.
